Privacy Policy

Boopsee ("we", "us") is a pet health companion app for dogs and cats, operated from India. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we don't sell your personal information, and if what we do with your data changes, this page changes first.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and (if provided) profile photo.
• Pet information you provide. Pet profiles (name, species, breed, date of birth, weight), health logs (activity, sleep, meals, weight, medications), and notes.
• Documents you upload. Photos and PDFs of veterinary records, lab results, and similar documents you choose to attach.
• Chat messages. Messages you send to Boop, the in-app AI assistant.
• Approximate location. If you allow it, we use your device's approximate location to show local weather on your dashboard. Your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo, the weather service we use, to fetch the forecast for your area. We don't store them, and they aren't attached to your account.
• Voice input. If you tap the microphone in chat, your speech is transcribed by your device's own speech service, which is Apple's on iPhone and Google's on Android. That service receives the audio and handles it under its own privacy policy; we receive only the text it returns.
• Crash and diagnostic data. If the app crashes, we receive technical details (device model, OS version, crash trace) via Firebase Crashlytics. This does not include your pet data.

We do not collect precise (GPS-level) location or contacts. The app asks only for approximate location, and on both platforms it is built so that precise location cannot be granted even if you wanted to give it.

We use Firebase Analytics to understand which parts of the app get used. It records which screens you open, which sign-in method you used, and a small set of actions: completing an onboarding step, creating a pet, adding a log, sending a chat message, scanning a record, earning a medal, completing a reminder, exporting a Pawsport, whether you allowed notifications, and whether a sign-in or onboarding attempt failed. It does not record what is in your logs, your documents, or your messages. Advertising identifiers are switched off on both platforms, and stripped out of the app entirely rather than merely disabled.

How we use your information

• To provide the app: storing and syncing your pets' profiles, logs, and records.
• To power AI features: when you use record scanning, the AI chat, or health insights, the relevant content (an uploaded document, your chat message, or a summary of your pet's logs) is processed by Google's Gemini API to generate the result. We use Google's paid API tier, under whose terms your data is not used to train Google's AI models.
• To fix problems: crash reports help us find and fix bugs.
• To email you about your account: a welcome message when you create your account, and occasional messages about your account or about important changes to the service. These are part of the service itself rather than something you sign up for separately, so they are not covered by the choice below. There will never be many of them.
• To email you about caring for your pet, if you asked us to: tips, new features, and occasional Boopsee news. We send these only if you asked for them, by ticking the box when you signed in or by turning on Boopsee emails in Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data. That box is never ticked for you, and agreeing to our Terms does not sign you up. You can turn it off in the same place at any time, or use the unsubscribe option in any of those emails; either one stops them, and neither affects your account or anything in the app. We record whether you said yes and when, so we can show what you agreed to. We do not sell your email address, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Where your data is stored, and where it travels

Your pets, logs, records and chat history live in Google Cloud Firestore in Google's Mumbai region (asia-south1). Uploaded documents live in Google Cloud Storage in the same Mumbai region. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Some data, such as recent logs, is also cached on your own device so the app works offline.

Storing your data in India does not mean it never leaves. Some processing happens abroad, and you should know which parts:

• The parts of the app that run on our servers, including AI chat, record scanning, insights and account deletion, run in Google Cloud's Iowa region (us-central1) in the United States. Your data passes through there while it is being processed.
• AI features are processed by Google's Gemini API, which Google may operate from outside India.
• Email is delivered by Resend, in the United States, which receives your email address and first name.
• Weather comes from Open-Meteo, in Germany, which receives approximate coordinates and nothing else.
• Voice input is transcribed by Apple's or Google's speech service, which may process the audio outside India.

Indian law permits transferring personal data outside India, other than to countries the Government specifically restricts, and we do not transfer to any restricted country. We tell you this because you are entitled to know where your pet's records go, not because permission is in doubt.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

Today we share data with four others: Google, for Firebase and the Gemini API, acting as our data processors; Resend, our email provider, which receives your email address and your first name so it can deliver the emails described above; Open-Meteo, which receives approximate coordinates and returns a forecast; and Apple's or Google's speech service, if you use voice input. We also share data where the law requires it.

We are not going to promise this list never grows. Boopsee is free, and a free app eventually has to pay for itself, which may one day mean advertising or another partner. What we will promise is the notice: if a new recipient is added, this page and our app store data disclosures are updated before it starts, not after.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes described above. In practice that means:

• Your account, pets, logs, documents and chat history: kept while your account is active, and deleted when you delete the account.
• The record that a deletion happened: kept indefinitely. It holds the internal ID the account had, the date, and whether the deletion succeeded. It contains no name, no email address, no pet information and no health data, and it cannot be used to rebuild anything about you. It exists so we can prove a deletion was carried out if it is ever questioned.
• Crash reports: kept on Google Crashlytics' own schedule, which is currently 90 days.
• Your marketing email preference: kept while your account is active, including a record of when you gave or withdrew it, because we are required to be able to show what you consented to.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Danger Zone in the app, which permanently deletes your account, pet profiles, logs, uploaded documents and chat history. If you have already uninstalled, you can email us instead. Our account deletion page explains both routes in full.

Children

Boopsee is for adults. Indian law treats anyone under 18 as a child, and requires verifiable consent from a parent or guardian before a child's personal data is processed, so you must be at least 18 to hold a Boopsee account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and we do not direct the app at children. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it and the data in it. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us at the address below and we will act on it.

Your rights

If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you these rights, and they are not conditional on anything:

• To know what we hold. A summary of the personal data we process about you, and who we have shared it with.
• To correct, complete, update or erase it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything you cannot, write to us.
• To be heard. A route to raise a grievance with us, and a reply, before you go anywhere else.
• To nominate someone. You can name another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become unable to exercise them yourself. Write to us and we will record the nomination.
• To withdraw consent as easily as you gave it, described below.

Wherever else you live, you may have comparable rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information. Contact us at the address below and we will honor these requests.

Where we rely on your consent, as we do for the pet care emails described above, you can withdraw it at any time and without giving a reason. Withdrawing is as easy as giving: one switch in the app, in the same place you turned it on. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did with your information before you withdrew it.

If something goes wrong

If a breach of your personal data occurs, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India and every affected person, as the law requires. We will tell you what happened, what data was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do to protect yourself. We will not wait for the breach to be judged serious enough first.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update this page and note the new effective date above. Previous versions are kept, and we will send you a copy of the one that was in force on any date you ask about.

This policy is published in English. If you would rather read it in Hindi or in any other language listed in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India, write to us and we will provide it.
